We are in the process of designing our seventh course on rural water supply and sanition. Agua del Pueblo and Cornell's Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity are sponsoring the course. We are also brainstorming with the David M. Einhorn Center for Community Engagement and the Cornell Engineering School to revise the course and potentially offer it to Cornell students. We have delivered the course at James Madison, Western New England and Furman Universities. I will attach a draft syllabus. Please let us know if you are interested in participating in the course. Depending on the number of students, the three-week course will cost less than $3,000 per student plus round trip international airfare. The fees will cover all room, board, and travel in Guatemala.
Check out this video that Furman University students prepared a couple of years back:
Full disclosure, in case any of you saw Animal House, one of my favorite movies, we need a lingua in causa excusatio. Animal House portrays the Zeta Beta Tau fraternity at Washington University and Alpha Delta Phi at Dartmouth College. Many of our founders were brothers in the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity house at Cornell. I promise that we never would have even thought of performing the nefarious deeds portrayed in the movie. I promise that none of us were that type of jerk. However, one of us DID invite the Bay Area Bombers and the New York Chiefs to a roller derby competition allegedly sponsored by the Brooklyn Brewery in our great hall. But we did NOT have any fun and very few of us sustained lasting injuries…
