Our first day in San Lucas by Cameron Nejat

Writer's picture: Bruce ClemensBruce Clemens

This trip has been a life changing experience. The other day I shadowed a bunch of medical students at the University of Wisconsin Madison, and saw how they gave medical care to an underserved indigenous community. They set up a pop up clinic in a run down building and with only urinary and pregnancy tests and basic medications, turned it into a legitimate clinic. These communities also have deep skepticism in medicine, so the only reason that these people were able to be seen is by the medical promoters creating trust in medicine. Overall, this was an experience like no other that I could only see in Guatemala. Patrick McManus took this photo in the town we visited.
